Ava and I had a date planned this past Friday evening and at the last minute I supersized it. We try to go out once a week, but had missed the previous weekend. Additionally, our schedules last week made it feel like we were just missing each other. I was really looking forward to our time together Friday night, but was feeling like I wanted more than our typical evening out. Shortly before we left, I had an idea. Let's go away for the night. Our schedules were free the next morning and our teenage daughter was willing to hold down the fort while we were gone. I went on-line and found a nice place close to home that was affordable. Our evening out was instantly supersized into an evening away complete with dinner and brunch the next morning. It became a Super Date and we had a blast.
In Ecclesiastes, Solomon counsels husbands to, "Enjoy life with your wife, whom you love." I can't imagine life without our weekly date, and now, hopefully, the occasional Super Date. We serve a God who created marriage. I believe He is delighted when we enjoy our spouse. When my boys get married I plan on giving each a simple piece of advice. Date your wife. Make a commitment to keep that date. When we had a houseful of little kids (five children ages seven and younger) our dates were monthly, not weekly, but they were still regular. We're also not rich, so most of our weekly dates involve spending time at a bookstore with a cup of coffee. A Super Date is a luxury. What matters most is time alone together. After almost 24 years of marriage I enjoy my wife more than ever. We go on more dates now than when we were dating (OK..an exaggeration, but not by much). I think there's a correlation between the two.
When was the last time you and your spouse went on a date? Do you have any fun, creative ideas to share?

This is what we did for Valentine's Day last year...near the end of the post:

On a more normal occasion, though, we like to sit in coffee shops (especially Caribou Coffee) and chit-chat, or go out for dinner, like in this post:
