I love to read. That's not exactly a well kept secret. I always seem to have several books going at once on a variety of topics. The books sit on a small table next to my desk in our house. I usually read for little chunks of time when I have a few spare minutes. Rarely will I sit for hours and read. I don't have the attention span for that. But, still I'm able to get through a lot of books using this "little chunk" approach.
Last summer I found myself between really compelling books. The ones on my table just weren't grabbing me and I found myself actually not reading much. Those little chunks of time began to get frittered away by surfing the internet. At the same time I was also involved in an in-depth study of Biblical contenentment and learning exactly what Paul meant when he said he had "learned how to be content". I wanted to know more about Paul, the man, and how he learned contentment. But my Bible study time has always been a seperate thing. That changed one afternoon. I had a short "chunk of time" and was in the mood to read so I picked up the Bible. I didn't study it. I just read it. I read one of Paul's entire letters. It was fun. I kept doing that day after day. I still had my study time, but now was using those little chunks of time to read the Bible. And because I wasn't studying I didn't need to get alone so I could concentrate. I read it in the middle of the living room, dining room, and on the back porch in the middle of the day. Often my kids would grab their Bibles and just sit with me and read. Or they'd ask questions. It was a delightful use of time. And it's continued to this day. Yeah, I still enjoy reading other books, in fact I have several going right now, but more often then ever the Bible is my default book when I have a "little chunk" of time available.
Starting February 1 we're going to be reading through the Bible in 90 days. I'm excited about doing this. Tracey started on Jan 1st and says it takes about 45 minutes a day for her to get through each day's reading. That feels like a big chunk of time for me. Instead I'm going to use my "little chunks" throughout the day to enjoy God's Word even more.
Will you join us?

yes,i am going to join you.. i am very excited about it and i am ready to go.... its all about JESUS!
I'm going to try very had to make and keep this commitment. It has been a life-long goal of mine to read the Bible cover-to-cover. Other than a 33-week intense Disciple Bible study, I have yet to realize that goal. I'm 44; it's about time I do it!
Yes, I will commit to this! The Word of God is our lifeline and lately I've been feeling a bit disconnected. I know that happens when I allow the cares of this world to enter in and choke out my time with Him and in His Word.
I'll be 30 years old in 8 months and this would be a milestone achievement for me. Rediscovering who we are in Jesus, His love for humanity and the purpose He has for us.
I'm so happy to have this opportunity to join with other believers in this endeavor that I'm sure will be richly rewarding!
Brenda says Yes, I am joining you in making a commitment to read the Bible in 90 days. I have never read through the Bible. I tried the "One Year Bible" last year, but didn't make it through. I am committed to carving out a chunk of time each day to read through the Bible. I know my LORD and Saviour Jesus Christ wants all his followers to read His Word and to be blessed!! I'm really looking forward to doing this and doing it with support of others will be so great!
Dave,
I do hope you journal your journey through the Bible in 90 days... unfortunately I'm not able to join you for this venture as I'm reading as Tracey is and started on Jan. 1st! I'm loving this study/reading time everyday.
God Bless and thanks for sharing His Word, Heather

I started today, Friday, Feb 1, 2008. I was planning to do my reading in the early am as part of my devotions. I read for about 30 minutes, but did not finish Day 1. So, I took the Bible to work and finished on my lunch hour. This is a little bit more difficult than I thought it would be. I guess I'm not reading fast enough, but I like to ponder over some of the verses. In Genesis I was surprised to learn that God told Adam about not eating the fruit from the tree of knowledge BEFORE he had created Eve (Genesis 2: 15-17).
How's everyone else doing who signed up to "Read The Bible in 90 Days?"
