Happy New Year...Really?

Happy New Year friends!

Ever wonder why say that every year? It’s not just a polite saying with no real meaning. “Happy New Year” is a true longing of our hearts. We want to be happy. We’d like the people we love to be happy. And wouldn’t you just be thrilled if 2010 were truly that kind of year for all of us? The thing about happiness is, there is no real formula, no specific set of circumstances, no one thing that can guarantee happiness for everyone.

Have you ever thought about one thing that you really wanted, you prayed about it, you saved for it, you just knew that if you could get this one thing, surely you’d be happy. Then you got it. And you found yourself wondering, is this all there is? What’s next?

Yeah, happiness is not so predictable is it?

One thing I do know, is that I am my happiest when I am growing, when I feel loved, valuable, and a part of something that is transcendent. You know-something bigger than me and my concerns.. Contributing in some small way in lifting up another soul, “adding to the beauty” -as one of my favorite songs goes.

I am one of those people who likes to make resolutions for a new year. Now that doesn’t mean, I keep them all and I am successful 100% of the time, but I do actually get it right - some of the time. I take it seriously. I want to change. I want to improve. I want to learn from my mistakes and get better in every area of my life. I believe God is in that desire and that He will guide me in the areas He is working on.

So with a heart full of hope and a sincere desire to make some wise resolutions for 2010, I sought out some help. I asked Dr. Henry Cloud, author of bazillions of books, (like “Boundaries”, “Changes that Heal”, etc…), why so many of us fail at keeping New Year’s resolutions and how can we do this better this year. Dr. Cloud came up with a “Top 10 for 2010” list of tips to help us do new year’s resolutions different this year. We’ll be sharing them with you on the air this week and updating you here on our blog as well. You can also check out Dr. Cloud’s fan page on Facebook that he personally interacts with, sharing practical insights for living well to the glory of God.

I hope these tips help you the way they are helping me. We don’t have to be afraid of setting goals, or making resolutions. We don’t even have to be afraid of failing at them. I think for me, the point is learning. And that happens when we try. What will you try to do better this year? What do you long for and dream about? I pray God will hear the cry of your heart and pour out His blessing in 2010. And with all sincerity and passion, I want to say to you.. Happy New Year.

In His Love,

Tracey
